Climate, Biodiversity, Sustainable Societies programme agency
The aim of the 'Climate, Biodiversity, Sustainable Societies' programme agency is to provide the required knowledge to support making the habitability of the planet and sustainable societies a shared collective objective. It also aims to support public decision-makers and stakeholders in society to respond effectively to environmental crises.
Human beings have never before had such a swift overall impact on the planet that now threatens the very survival of our societies and ecosystems. This means that, alongside developing ambitious international policies to cut our greenhouse gas emissions and fight global change, it is crucial to develop the capacity to adapt on the national scale to ensure the economy's resilience and the continuity of essential services, to preserve natural and cultural environments and to provide effective overall protection for the population. The 'Climate, Biodiversity, Sustainable Societies' programme led by the CNRS is at the interface with other programme agencies and aims to provide the right responses to these challenges.
The aim of the agency is to enhance the coordination of the work of research stakeholders and optimise the overall organisation of the research and innovation ecosystem in these fields. In particular, the agency will steer new national research programmes and ensure effective coordination with priority research programmes and equipments.
By bringing together partners from the socio-economic sphere alongside research and training stakeholders, the agency will support public decision-makers with knowledge acquired through the corresponding research programmes. It will also bring civil society and research together to co-construct new projects.

The CNRS's multidisciplinary nature means the organisation is part of all the agencies entrusted by the State to French academic stakeholders. The CNRS is represented in each agency by a scientific director and helps coordinate the agencies, set up working groups if necessary and put forward programmes.
